MBCL: Mindfulness-Based Compassionate Living – 8-week course

This beautiful course will navigate you through the secrets of compassion to yourself and others and enable you to experience life in a deeper and more enriching way. The program builds on mindfulness skills, and is suitable as an advanced  course for MBSR graduates or those of you who already have long-term meditation practice.

Well-known MBCL program has been repeatedly verified by clinical research. It impacts experiencing positive emotions in life, inner feeling of satisfaction, reduces of symptoms of depression and anxiety, increases emotional resilience, impacts immune system in a positive way , reduces  self-criticism and increases self-confidence, increases respect for people, cultivates a feeling of connectedness with people and has other other positive effects.

The MBCL course was created by psychiatrist Erik van den Brink and meditation teacher Frits Koster, who previously served as a Buddhist monk. It was originally applied to psychiatric patients at a clinic in the Netherlands. The program gradually spread among the general population to many countries and gained high popularity.

The course builds on insights from neuroscience, Paul Gilbert’s Compassion Focused Theory, self-compassion approach from Kristin Neff and Chris Germer, as well as Acceptance-Commitment Therapy, positive psychology, and the work of Tara Brach and Rick Hanson.

What to expect

You can look forward to eight immersive sessions, each 2.5 hours long, held once a week in the evening, designed to gently guide you deeper into compassion alongside with mindful awareness. After the sixth week, you will also enjoy a one-day weekend retreat, offering space to truly slow down and reconnect.

You will receive  guided meditation recordings to support your practice at home and help you integrate mindfulness into your daily life.

The course will take place from October 13 to December 1, 2026, live in Bratislava.

  • How to calm down your nervous system
  • How to deal with your desires and habits that do not benefit you
  • How to work with your “inner demons”,i.e. with deep internal patterns that are no longer useful today and limit you in experiencing life or in your relationships
  • How to deal with experiencing difficult situations or painful emotions
  • How to forgive – yourself and others
  • How to develop kindness, gratitude and inner wisdom
  • How to take care of your inner landscape to strengthen a feeling of happiness in life

When: October 13 – December 1, 2026

As part of the journey, you are warmly invited to join a Day of Silence—a restorative retreat focused on cultivating compassion for yourself and others—taking place on November 22, 2026.

Where: Detské centrum Ihrisko, Halašova 25/A, Bratislava – Nové Mesto

The centre is located in a quiet neighborhood and is easily accessible by public transport (bus no. 50, trams no. 4 and 3).

If you arrive by car, you can park for free in the courtyard of the centre. Additional parking options include: Vivo shopping centre (a 7-minute walk), or
street parking in front of the centre for 1 EUR/hour.

Price: 335 EUR for the full course.

The course package includes:

A reduced rate of 295 EUR is available for teachers, healthcare professionals, and individuals who feel drawn to the course but are currently unable to meet the full fee.
